Currently our Facilities Planning & Construction invites well qualified candidates to apply for the role of Director of Facilities Planning I. This position coordinates and oversees major and minor project design and construction with the FP&C Managers of Construction and the FP&C Director II. It also serves as a liaison between the FP&C department and other divisions, colleges, schools, etc.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the design, permitting, bidding, construction, and close-out of capital and minor projects and ensures the projects meet all required codes and standards.
  • Reviews contract documents (plans, specifications, etc.) for accuracy, completeness of data, and compliance with existing codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Performs constructibility reviews to ensure that installed construction systems are consistent with approved drawings and specifications to protect the university's investment in facility assets.
  • Ensures that proper commissioning is performed on projects, in compliance with university requirements and best practices.
  • Analyzes and directs action on behalf of the university relating to the design and construction process - especially related to proposal reviews, estimate evaluations, design direction, and phase approvals. Participates in long range planning activities for the physical development of University facilities. Act as a technical advisor for direct reports.
  • Participates in the selection of continuing service vendors (Architects, Engineers, Contractors, etc.) and vendors for capital projects (Architects, Construction Managers, etc.).
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures to improve departmental efficiencies and processes.
  • All other duties as assigned

Expected Salary:

$104,664 to Negotiable

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage major construction and renovation programs with limited oversight.
  • Ability to make and/or recommend informed technical and managerial decisions.
  • Experience with permitting, code compliance and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Technical writing skills sufficient enough to author contracts, specifications, reports, and general office, university or divisional policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of complex and detailed technical contract language. Excellent interpersonal communicative and strong organizational skills. Problem solve collaboratively.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial construction, community development, and relevant statistical and research methods.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment. Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management preferred. Significant construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a University setting preferred.
