Job Description:

The Web Applications Manager is a mission-critical member of the Graduate and Research IT (GRIT) team for managing web application development and programming for enterprise research systems. GRIT supports Office of Research and College of Graduate Studies (ORCGS) at UCF and provides technical solutions for researchers, staff and students by developing and supporting enterprise solutions for research administration, compliance with federal & state regulations and technical commercialization (contracts & grants, research financials, animal and human subject research, effort reporting, etc.); enterprise-wide research and commercialization data reporting and analytics; system configuration, administration and integration; system and database administration, data backup and disaster recovery.

  • Manage enterprise web application development projects and programming pertaining to University's enterprise systems for ORCGS. Establish consistent release management process. Work with business for requirements and user acceptance. Communicate upcoming releases, new features and maintenance cycles with various user groups.

  • Draft software design documents and architectural diagrams and perform analysis, design, coding, modification, testing, data migration, data conversion, system configuration, integration, documentation and maintenance of ORCGS applications using tools such as ColdFusion, .NET, MS SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, AJAX, jQuery, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, PHP, etc.

  • Provides technical assistance on cloud computing projects for researchers, working with senior solutions architects. This includes computing, different types of storage, and running research applications in the cloud.

  • Coordinate with internal and external clients, technical personnel, IT project managers, and vendors to facilitate software implementation. Works closely with Business Process Relationship team to implement enhancements and provide support for ORCGS business units.

  • Identify and implement strategies for web application improvements and present to senior management. Work with senior management to project and plan for the expansion of enterprise web services for ORCGS.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to web application programmers and perform code reviews to ensure that all enterprise web applications are maintained at optimum appearance, access, and performance levels for University's researchers, key study personnel, research administrators, department/college administration staff, etc.

  • Keep abreast of industry standards and perform technical audits on enterprise applications to ensure compliance with security standards and software development methodologies and that they facilitate all business processes.

  • Perform HR tasks to screen, interview and hire candidates; train junior developers and interns; review and evaluate work and prepare performance evaluation reports. Confers with and advises subordinates on administrative policies and procedures. Develop procedures and processes to enhance efficiencies and collaboration within the team.

  • Other duties as assigned.



Office of Research

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Schedule may vary as required and include some occasional evenings or weekends.

$64,518 - Negotiable

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field.

  • Four years' IT experience in programming and application development with progressive responsibility and must include at least one year of experience in each of the following technologies: developing database-driven applications using ColdFusion, JavaScript, AJAX and jQuery with MS SQL Server back-end, and programming research administration systems.

  • Experience working with cloud technologies like AWS or Azure preferred.
