Job Description:

The Safety Specialist I assists the Environmental Health and Safety Department in providing radiation safety services to the UCF community.

Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Perform compliance inspections related to laboratory safety and hazardous material storage and use.
  • Prepare inspection reports.
  • Monitor completion dates of corrective action plans.
  • Assist with review and input of hazardous materials inventories.
  • Perform classification, collection, transportation, storage, and documentation of chemical, biological, and radioactive waste.
  • Maintain waste storage facility and spill response equipment.
  • Provide safety training and technical guidance to the university community.
  • Perform surveying/sampling activities for potentially contaminated areas; assisting in response to investigation; and follow-up on accidents and incidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

$48,722 - Negotiable

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Current DOT hazardous materials training
