NOx Nation (Caranto Lab) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, FL is seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate to study in the field of bioinorganic chemistry and metalloenzymology. The selected candidate will work on a Department of Defense funded project to mechanistically study and engineer enzymes with promise to aid in the bioremediation of compounds in military-grade explosives.


Duties include designing, execution, and documentation of research protocols (40%); collection, analysis, and documentation of generated data (20%); writing and editing of grants and publications (20%); equipment maintenance (10%); training and mentoring students (5%); and presenting at scientific conferences (5%).


The term is one year with the possibility to renew up to 3 years, depending on performance and funding. A mentoring plan tailored for the applicant’s career goals will be negotiated and supported. The candidate will have access to equipment in the lab and a desk in the department postdoctoral office.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph. D. in chemistry or a related field from an accredited institution by time of hire.


Experience with protein crystallography is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Skill sets in protein mutagenesis and protein engineering.
