The Facilities Operations department is seeking to hire a qualified Superintendent for their Housekeeping and Recycling department.

Functions performed in this roll include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise Recycling Assistants and team within their unit; Promote the Recycling Program
  • Accomplish departmental objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; Communicating job expectations; Planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions, recommending compensation actions; and adhering to established departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), applicable State and Federal guidelines and the unit process guide;
  • Develop and execute a system of internal controls which provide reasonable assurance that unit operations are effective and efficient, unit assets are safeguarded, unit financial information is reliable, and the unit complies with applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures;
  • Review all work orders assigned to the zone. Maintain and enter accurate data into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) that are related to work status, pertinent details, costs (labor/materials), dates, time, invoices, images, actions performed to correct the issue, etc.;
  • Track estimated hours to actual hours for scheduled work within the assigned work group. Maintain committed schedule completion dates and standardized productivity levels. Analyze and categorize work backlog by prioritizing and assigning effort required for work completion;
  • Provide the team with schedules that coordinate between work requests, various departments and front-line staff that are required to complete a job. Analyze schedule status and forecast of manpower availability. Create custom reports by working with Engineering and report on planned work progress. Responsible for maintaining and adhering to scheduled completion date with a prioritized productivity level documenting and discrepancies;
  • Review work packages in electronic CMMS issue or hard copy job plans for completeness and accuracy, including specifications, drawings, and manuals to ensure processes and services produced by the organization meet current UCF standards and adhere to the process guide, increase maintainability, and ensure compliance to exacted policies, regulations, or laws;
  • Inspect work for completeness, fulfillment of the identified scope, and general quality of workmanship while complying with the work management process through work order closure;
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferences will be granted to candidates who meet the following:

  • Three to five years of experience in supervision with proven ability to coordinate multiple demands in a fast paced service or production environment.
  • Experience in large complex organizations with a progressively responsible career path within facility management.
  • Able to analyze, make decisions, and take appropriate action.
  • Able to follow written and/or oral directions.
  • Able to demonstrate competence in assigned task.
  • Able to listen to, assess and take appropriate action on employee issues.
  • Able to stay alert and actively participate in UCF functions, meetings, etc.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, and local safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills in English in order to work effectively with customers and supervise team members.
  • Management skills such as: planning, organizing, controlling, ability to delegate, train, coach, lead, mentor, motivate, and ensure cohesiveness in a diverse work environment.
  • Able to understand, communicate, apply, and enforce UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools and materials, and task specific sequencing required for maintenance/housekeeping, sanitation, and repairs.
  • Able to analyze budgets pertaining to facility service organizations or maintenance organizations.
  • Able to assess appropriate skill level to task to provide most cost-effective service.
  • Able to use commonly used computer programs such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and the CMMS in implementing workflow processes.
  • Previous work in resource load balancing with short- and long-term planning in a maintenance organization.
  • Able to interpret and prepare reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and address sensitive matters appropriately and efficiently.
  • Able to assess material needs, order, and sustain accurate and sufficient inventories.
  • Able to ensure that work productivity and service meet UCF quality assurance standards.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (regular license). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
