The University of Central Florida (UCF) is currently seeking an Assistant Vice President of Human Resources. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, the Assistant Vice President will work with HR professionals to translate the university’s mission and vision into forward-thinking HR operational plans. As a strategic business partner for the university, this role will provide knowledge and expertise in all aspects of the human resources function across the institution, as well as, advance and build support for changes in and enhancements to human resources initiatives. The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources will be responsible for providing leadership oversight for several HR functional areas to further UCF’s human capital initiatives. This leader is expected to make high impact, strategic contributions and nurture the development and implementation of comprehensive talent management and total rewards initiatives that will uplift the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by attracting and retaining a diverse and talented workforce.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong acumen in several of the following areas: Benefits; Compensation & Classification; Employee Relations & Human Resources Compliance; Employment Services & Records; HR Information Systems; Leave Administration; Learning & Organizational Effectiveness; Payroll Services; Talent Acquisition. Although the selected candidate is not expected to be an expert in all areas, the right individual will have relevant knowledge to understand each functional area with enough depth to contribute and provide insight;

  • Demonstrated ability to manage, inspire and lead a team of dedicated professionals in a customer service oriented human resources infrastructure;

  • Strong management skills with experience working with decentralized and highly autonomous operating units; emotional intelligence and experience with an emphasis on a collaborative approach to work and the ability to influence an outcome through a consultative methodology;

  • Track record of demonstrated successes supporting a diverse community through workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, problem solving, hiring, retention, facilitation, and decision-making skills and competencies;

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical implementation; excellent change management, project management and process improvement skills; ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities;

  • Demonstrated success as a strategic Human Resources practitioner who has a strong understanding of HR best practices and a proven record of visionary leadership

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday; 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. 

This position is essential to UCF operations and could be required to work at UCF during hurricanes or COOP events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 10+ years relevant experience with at least 5+ years of leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

 
  • Master’s Degree in human resources administration, public administration, business administration, accounting, or closely related field preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of HR generalist experience, with at least 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience directing a comprehensive Human Resources department with multiple human resources functional areas
  • Previous experience leading talent management and total rewards teams, with emphasis on benefits, compensation & classification, learning & organizational effectiveness, talent acquisition and succession planning
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP HR certification highly preferred
  • Previous experience in higher education highly desirable
  • Previous experience with Collective Bargaining
