Job Description:

The Department of History is searching for an Accounting Specialist I. This position will directly report to the Administrative Services Coordinator II and assist in the management of the day-to-day fiscal operations of the History Department office.

  • This position provides support for financial operations/activities including maintaining up to date and accurate records of daily transactions, accounts payable/receivable.
  • Responsible for coordinating travel arrangements, preparing travel requisitions, and completing travel reimbursements.
  • Provides planning, management and/or support for financial operations activities including accounting, internal controls and financial systems, budget services, internal and external auditing, procurement and payroll.
  • Performs accounting functions such as analyzing, monitoring, reconciling, and reporting financial information.
  • May include activities relating to developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting systems, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidate will have a minimum of 6 months experience in 3 or more of the following areas:

  • Overseeing and managing the daily fiscal operations of an academic office
  • Experience in following university fiscal policies and procedures
  • Creating purchase & travel requisitions and reimbursements
  • Creating requisitions & payments for non-travel payments
  • Processing Pcard purchases with knowledge of policies and procedures
  • Creating, managing, and manipulating spreadsheets (Excel, Adobe)
  • Creating Interdepartmental Journals
  • Processing Foundation Reimbursements
  • Tracking and reconciling multiple department funding sources, E&G, Federal Work Study (FWS), Foundation
  • Multi-application computer skills with emphasis on PeopleSoft Financials, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Cost center reporting and tracking, payroll processing
  • Experience in a professional environment with multiple demands and requests
  • An attention to detail and organization, adaptable to various situations, and an ability to communicate effectively amongst multiple audiences
