Job Description:

The School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) is looking for an exceptional research faculty member with a concentration in behavioral computer security. This is a non-tenure track position. We are interested in hiring a candidate in behavioral computer security with an established record of high-impact research and publications. UCF's Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) is an internationally recognized research institute within SMST that focuses on advancing human-centered modeling and simulation technology and increasing our understanding of simulation's role in training and education. The IST has strong areas of research in behavioral cybersecurity, virtual environments, terrain databases, computer generated forces, training, education, team training and education, complex adaptive systems, cyber workforce development, medical simulation, additive manufacturing, robotics, and autonomous systems.  Co-located with Department of Defense (DoD) simulation acquisition agencies, the National Center for Simulation, and Team Orlando, IST is the premier academic research center at the epicenter of modeling, simulation, and training. 


UCF has a current enrollment of over 69,000 students and is one of the nation's largest universities. Located in Orlando, UCF is at the center of the I-4 High Tech Corridor. The corridor has an excellent industrial base that includes software, defense, space, simulation and training, and a world-renowned entertainment industry. Adjacent to UCF is a thriving research park that hosts more than 100 high technology companies and the Institute for Simulation and Training. The Central Florida area is designated by the state of Florida as the Center of Excellence in Modeling and Simulation. Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in computer science, computer engineering, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a closely-related field. Knowledge of current practices in cyber systems, simulations, and training are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Research focus area is open, but preference will be given to cyber-oriented cognitive psychologists or computer scientists whose research complements existing departmental strengths in behavioral cybersecurity, cybercrime, or online social engineering.  Persons with expertise in computer simulations that involve humans controlling the simulation or modeling human behavior are desired.  Experimental research design experience and cyber security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, OSCP) are a plus but not required.  Required and desired knowledge and experience can be demonstrated through recent publications, positions held, teaching experience, etc.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

U.S. citizenship and the ability to attain security clearance is desired due to the nature of research performed.  Preference will be given to applicants who have previously served as military cyber operators, cyber support operators, or law enforcement officers with experience relating to cybercrime.


This is a full-time, 12-month position supported by contracts and grants funding (C&G) and is contingent upon available funding.


This is a non-tenure track position.
