The Facilities Operations Department at the University of Central Florida is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacant Maintenance Technician ll position.

  • Perform planned scheduled work or as assigned by the supervisor defined as preventive maintenance (PM)/predictive maintenance (PDM) geared toward proactively identifying potential failures or preventing failures. Conduct PM repair (PMR) which are repairs of defects found during a (PM or PDM).

  • Conduct corrective repairs in reaction to a user reporting issues to restore functionality. Planned work can be identified as part of the following skilled trades: Plumbing, Electrical, Heating, Ventilation, air conditioning, Painting and Carpentry. Maintains and repair plumbing equipment including but not limited to drinking fountains, faucets, toilets, drains, urinals, sinks, garbage disposal.

  • Maintains and replaces lighting components, outlets, switches, motors, pumps and compressors. Repairs and replaces heating components, valves and soft water. Repairs and maintains exhaust and supply air ventilators, maintains and replaces filters, performs carpentry repairs to floors doors, windows and walls. Performs painting work to exterior and interior areas, equipment and building components.

  • Perform Support work by assisting with work done by central shops, contractors, other zones and departments, or events on campus.

  • Perform Routine work defined as recurring work that has no specific frequency and remains open for an explicit amount of time.

  • Perform Project work defined as work performed in conjunction with Facilities Improvement programs, Capital Improvement programs or work that result in an upgrade to the facilities.

  • Complete work orders in timely manner. Record labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes. Indicate in the trade notes work performed, any special conditions or situation that requires further attention.

  • Assist with inventory control and security.

  • Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Flexible for utilization by trade with most urgent requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use various electrical meters and construct and install power supplies.
  • Be familiar with operation and powered drain- cleaning machine.
  • Painting knowledge and skills.
  • May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination and training in use of respirators.
  • Able to understand and follow written/ oral instructions.
  • Able to communicate in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment( iPod Touch for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures and utilize telecommunication devices.
  • Able to operate a vehicle as necessary.
  • Must be able to operate essential tools and equipment.
  • Adaptable in assignments.
  • Demonstrate capabilities in the following: interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, calculation, reading, evaluating, comprehension, and organizing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications for work order systems (CMMS).
  • Able to use EH&S approved chemicals to perform essential job functions daily.

This position requires a valid Florida driver's license.

This position is considered essential to the operations of the university and the individual holding this position is designated as essential personnel and is expected to respond, as directed by their supervisor, to emergency or operational situations. This position my require overtime and/or weekend coverage as deemed necessary by university operational needs, including during semester turns. Position is responsible for an on-call rotation to support Housing after-hours calls.
