Job Description:

The Division of Physical Therapy within the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy (SKPT) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for clinical assistant professor with primary role of clinical patient care in a new faculty practice. The position is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment which can begin as early as August 2020. The successful candidate will be a clinical faculty member in Physical Therapy and contribute to excellence in physical therapy education through exemplary clinical practice, clinical teaching, and other duties to advance the school, college, and university mission.

 

Primary duties include:

•        Perform patient evaluations and re-evaluations according to standards and recommended techniques. Establish, implement and adapt an individualized physical therapy treatment plan of care (including appropriate goal setting, treatment activities and frequency). Discharge patients when maximum benefit has been achieved and/or according to standards of practice and payer guidelines. 

•        Document patient services accurately, completely, timely and legibly. Use measurable and objective terminology according to standards of practice, follow insurance and college/university guidelines.

•        Charge patients accurately, completely, timely and legibly according to guidelines of the CPT code format, price file, following insurance and college/university guidelines.

•        Identify the need for patient/caregiver education and utilize each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis. Document education and understanding, as appropriate.

•        Participate in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Support quality standards and initiatives set by the school. Follow clinical practice guidelines (APTA) by impairment when appropriate.

•        Practice principles of employee and patient safety when performing daily job activities via observation.

•        Comply with UCF policies and procedures, rules and regulations of all local, state and federal agencies, and with the standards of all accrediting bodies and payers as evident through documentation reviews, tracers and rounds results.

•        Serve as a clinical educator and mentor to College of Health Professions and Sciences/Doctor of Physical Therapy students.

•        Integrate appropriate research and services activities designed by faculty from the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy into the provision of patient care within the clinical setting.

 

Physical Therapy at the University of Central Florida (UCF) resides within the College of Health Professions and Sciences, School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy (SKPT), which is a core component of the newly formed UCF Academic Health Science Center (AHSC) along with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, UCF Health, and UCF Student Health. The AHSC academic and clinical components will be supporting a new partnership to develop a teaching hospital, the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center. 

 

UCF Physical Therapy consists of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, an Anatomical Sciences Graduate Certificate, a Neurologic Residency Program, and the UCF Physical Therapy Clinical Practice. Support of clinical services exists through the new College of Health Professions and Sciences and the Academic Health Science Center, which includes partnerships with other disciplines such as medicine, nursing, athletic training, and speech language pathology. Research opportunities exist within the SKPT Institute of Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Science, which possesses numerous basic, applied clinical, and community research laboratories. Minimum Qualifications:

•       An entry-level physical therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited institution and an earned professional or academic doctoral degree from an accredited institution.

•        Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Florida.

•        An area of contemporary expertise in the clinical practice areas related to orthopedics and sports physical therapy.

•        A minimum of 3 years of full-time clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist or completion of an orthopedic or sports physical therapy residency program.

•        A current CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

•        A board-specialty certification in orthopedics or sports physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.

•        An APTA credentialed clinical instructor with experience in mentorship of physical therapy students.

•        Experience and an interest in research and scholarly activity.

•        A record of active involvement in professional organizations.
