The Center for Global Economic and Environmental Opportunity (GEEO) of the University of Central Florida is seeking a project coordinator to develop and coordinate the operation of an open-source dashboard on sustainable development.
GEEO is providing information and expertise to the East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative, a compact initiated by the eight counties and 78 towns and cities of the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council. The collaborative is an ongoing regional endeavor focused on the three pillars of “people” (health and equity), “places” (natural resources and the built environment), and “prosperity” (economic resilience). Woven throughout those three pillars will be a reduction in the area carbon footprint, a reduction in the regional risks and vulnerabilities that require regional emergency management, and an increase in regional efforts to achieve sustainability. The collaborative’s three pillars are closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, which comprise the UN 2030 Agenda.
The GEEO open-source dashboard will be employed as a resource by the collaborative in measuring both where the region stands at the outset with respect to each of its goals for resilience, and how much it advances over time toward achieving those goals. The GEEO dashboard will draw upon methods and metrics developed in similar efforts elsewhere toward sustainable development – regionally, nationally, and internationally – while tailoring them toward the distinctive needs of the East Central Florida region.
The project coordinator will be tasked with developing these regional measurements in collaboration with the collaborative and with the various governments, institutions, and organizations working with it; and will be tasked also with developing an accessible link on the GEEO website where this information will be displayed and will be available to the collaborative and to anyone else who may wish to use it. UCF students will be enlisted to work with the project coordinator toward this end. The project coordinator will report to the director of GEEO, who will provide overall direction and oversight for the dashboard project.
To be considered, candidates for project coordinator must have knowledge of open-source code, the Github code hosting platform, and programming languages. The successful candidate must also have a background in computer science and programming and must be a multi-disciplined and systems-based thinker with specific experience in data visualization design, basic database skills, data preparation (extract, transform, and load), and business math and statistics.
This is a reposted position. Previous applicants are still being considered and do not need to reapply.
