Job Description:

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) and the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) graduate program (M.S. Interactive Entertainment) in the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking a highly motivated and exceptionally qualified individual to support the interdisciplinary team-based graduate curriculum. The FIEA program is ranked as the #1 graduate game design program in North America and Europe by The Princeton Review. The successful candidate will be appointed as a twelve-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer in the FIEA graduate program. The anticipated employment start date will be on or before January 3, 2022.

 

The selected candidate will contribute to the mission of NSCM through teaching courses at the graduate level in FIEA and the undergraduate level in the Games and Interactive Media (GaIM) program. 

 

The instructional assignments are expected to be in-person at the graduate level.  Virtual technologies are utilized for team and one-on-one instruction within the program and various modes may be applied in any undergraduate assignment. 

 

Direction and related duties may include recruitment and professional, instructional and community service in the game and simulation industries.

Minimum Qualifications:

For an instructor rank, candidates must hold a master's degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment in digital arts, interactive technologies or a related field, with game industry-related and/or instructional experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment in digital arts, interactive technologies or a related field, with extensive years of game industry-related and/or instructional experience.

 

For a lecturer rank, candidates must hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment in digital arts, interactive technologies or a related field.

 

The selected candidate will have appropriate specialization in a majority of the following areas: level design, game art asset pipeline, lighting, block design/whitebox, Blueprints Visual Scripting, 3D digital art tools and technology. Candidates must also have evidence of effective teaching and/or mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to the candidate who also demonstrates knowledge and experience in the Unreal game engine.

 

Additional preference may be given to candidates with the specified master’s degrees, more than 3 years of game industry and/or instructional experience, and candidates with the specified bachelor’s degrees and more than 7 years of game industry and/or instructional experience.
