Job Description:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a highly qualified Anatomical Sciences Educator for a full-time (tenure-track or non-tenure track) position in the Department of Medical Education. The ideal candidate will have experience with team teaching Anatomy using a variety of instructional approaches including direct cadaver prosection in post-secondary and/or graduate education, a record of participation and/or leadership in scholarly initiatives, and adequate background to facilitate instruction for other basic sciences at a preclinical medical school level. 

 

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of faculty and staff to teach anatomical sciences to medical students and collaborate with foundational sciences and clinical faculty to integrate anatomical concepts throughout the curriculum. Evidence of a strong commitment to excellence in teaching is preferred, as well as experience with varied formats including case-based instruction, large- and small-group discussion, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning. While a Ph.D. in Anatomy is optimal, consideration will be open to candidates with experience and credentials that align with the ideal candidate profile described above and minimum and preferred qualifications presented below. 

 

The College of Medicine is an LCME-accredited medical college with an annual matriculation of 120 medical students and is part of a new Academic Health Sciences Center which houses multiple health disciplines. The College of Medicine campus is part of a growing biomedical cluster known as “Medical City” at Lake Nona which is dedicated to innovation in health and wellness and continues to develop just east of the Orlando International Airport. The College of Medicine is located in a new medical education building with modern anatomy, histology and simulation laboratories as well as a state-of-the-art library.  In addition to the medical school, the Lake Nona campus also includes a state-of-the-art research center at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, multiple clinical graduate medical education programs, UCF outpatient clinics, and the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center. Nearby are the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Guidewell Innovation research incubator, the Nemours Children’s Hospital, and the new UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Anatomy from an accredited institution, a terminal degree in another field from an accredited institution with demonstrated experience teaching anatomy, or an M.D./D.O. or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution. 

 

Demonstrated scholarly productivity based on a record of peer-reviewed presentations and/or publications. 

 

The candidate’s scholarly background and experience must be commensurate with the faculty rank for which the application is submitted. To be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor upon hire, the successful candidate must have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement and teaching experience commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in human cadaveric dissection and the ability to direct cadaver prosection in teaching labs.

 

Experience in implementing high-quality anatomical sciences curricula, including incorporating digital technology, competency-based assessments, collaborative teaching.

 

Potential to teach other areas in the preclinical curriculum including, but not limited to, histology, embryology, neuroanatomy and/or medical imaging, or a willingness to expand their knowledge in these areas.

 

For M.D./D.O. candidates - Florida Medical Licensure or eligibility for Florida Medical License and/or Board certification is preferred.
