Job Description:

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applicants for a non-tenure earning, nine-month instructor or lecturer position in Emerging Media. The anticipated start date is August 8, 2022.

 

SVAD seeks a candidate with a balance of technical and theoretical foundations. The successful candidate will play an important role in the School of Visual Arts and Design's Emerging Media BFA, which includes the following tracks: Character Animation, Experimental Animation, and Graphic Design. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles and elements of design. Core areas will include 2-D/3-D animation, 3-D modeling and texturing, motion graphics, rendering and compositing, animation production, development and design, concept art, and a strong understanding of the moving image. The principal duties of this position include teaching a four-course load per semester and service.

Minimum Qualifications:

A non-terminal master’s degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by start of appointment.  Appropriate disciplines include digital art, film, animation, the fine arts or media-related discipline. Candidates must have at least one year of relevant professional industry production experience as well as previous teaching experience in the field of emerging media.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education and skills in digital editing of time-based moving imagery and cinematography are preferred. Additionally, teaching experience in one or more of the following software is helpful: Toon Boom Harmony, Autodesk Maya, Adobe Creative Cloud. A strong understanding of traditional and digital 2-D animation and the production pipeline is encouraged.
