The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida's Office of Research is seeking a Contracts and Grants Accountant I. This role is responsible for managing accounts payable activities for the Research Foundation, including monitoring and reconciling PCard transactions. Key responsibilities include adding new customers and sponsors in Workday, obtaining updated W-9 forms as needed, and ensuring the allowability of all processed payments. The position also provides support for the financial closeout of grants and assists with fiscal and calendar year-end processes. Additionally, the role participates in the transfer and documentation of equipment donations.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, review, and approve accounts payable requests to ensure the appropriate backup documentation has been provided, calculations are accurate, necessary approvals are obtained, and that the expenditures meet Research Foundation and sponsor guidelines and requirements.

  • Assist in the Research Foundation grant financial closeout process.

  • Guide college and department staff and faculty in the preparation and process of accounts payable requests.

  • Investigate and resolve problems related to expenditure and/or procurement practices.

  • Receive, review PCard receipts and process reconciliations (via Bank of America and Workday) to ensure the appropriate backup documentation has been provided and that expenditures meet Research Foundation and sponsor guidelines and requirements.

  • Add or update customers/sponsors directly into Workday including review of information in Huron and updating as necessary.

  • Obtain necessary W9's to either establish or update customer vendor record in Workday as needed.

  • Review and approve journals.

  • Assist as needed with Fiscal and Calendar Year End need.

  • Participate in the transfer of equipment donations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in financial reporting, billing, or grants management, within a university or state or local agency.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) with advanced skills in financial analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, charts, and macros.

  • Experience with Workday or similar ERP.

  • Exposure to federal contract and grant billing, Uniform Guidance, and post-award research administration.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $48,722- $59,684. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
