The Opportunity

The Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking to fill two, non-tenure-track, 12-month, Instructional Designers (ID) positions. These positions are eligible to participate in the university’s open promotion plan for advancement to higher rank.

The primary responsibility of the Instructional Designer is to develop and sustain collaborative relationships with online faculty and to support the design, development, and enhancement of online courses. This role includes assisting with curriculum development and the creation of course materials using UCF’s learning management system (LMS) and other designated instructional technologies.

Additionally, the Instructional Designer is responsible for all phases of instructional and curriculum design—including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation—to support the delivery of effective and efficient professional development programming. These efforts are intended to assist faculty in transitioning courses to the online environment and to promote the overall quality of online instruction at the University of Central Florida. Instructional Designers also engage in research-informed professional development activities and contribute through service.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides pedagogical consultation services to online faculty, including but not limited to coaching, mentoring, and encouraging online teaching and learning best practices.

  • Serves as a course designer on behalf of faculty using UCF’s LMS and other specified software. Designs and develops instructional content and materials as necessary.

  • Acts as liaison between faculty/departments and other CDL teams specific to pedagogy, professional development curriculum and courses, and change management.

  • Assists in developing and implementing instructional design strategies in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Conducts and/or assists with research to evaluate and improve digital learning at UCF.

  • Participates in strategic planning to ensure alignment and attainment of team goals and objectives, as well as to enhance communication between and among CDL teams.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

  • A minimum of two years of experience working in online instructional/curriculum design or faculty development, preferably in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in education, instructional design, or related field from an accredited institution.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning theories and instructional design frameworks.

  • Demonstrated skills in effective communication and presentation.
