The Opportunity   

 The University of Central Florida (UCF) is dedicated to increasing the prominence of its Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department. UCF offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering and the undergraduate degree is ABET-accredited.  

The CECE department houses several high-impact labs. Transportation Science and Technology at UCF is ranked the top program in the U.S. and 19th globally in the 2025 Shanghai Ranking. UCF is a leader in Transportation in Florida and will house the newly established multimillion-dollar Florida Transportation Research Institute (FTRI) mandated by the Florida legislature and Florida Secretary of Transportation in 2024. 

To strengthen these efforts, we invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-earning assistant professor or tenured associate professor, or professor position in Transportation Engineering Systems within the Civil Engineering program, with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2027.  

 

The selected candidate hired for this position is expected to have either demonstrated (tenured) or shown a clear potential (tenure-earning) for creative and independent research that has led (tenured) or would potentially lead (tenure-earning) to strong extramurally funded research and national/international recognition. The selected candidate is also expected to train postdoctoral scholars, serve as the primary advisor for graduate students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Civil Engineering.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • A doctorate from an accredited institution in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field at the time of the appointment.  

  • To be eligible for appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor upon hire, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor in the applicable tenure home.  

  • Candidates must have expertise in one or more aspects of transportation, including but not limited to the following: connected vehicles/automated vehicles’ applications; transportation technologies; traveler behavior and demand modeling; freight and transportation logistics; applications of econometrics and data analytics to transportation planning; traffic signals’ control and technologies; traffic operations; smart mobility; big data and internet of things; air mobility; transportation economics and policies; etc.  

  • Successful applicants will have either demonstrated or shown a clear potential for creative and independent research that has led or would lead to strong extramurally funded research. 

  

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Preference will be given to those with a few years of experience in academia or industry with a proven ability to publish in top transportation and transportation technology journals.
