The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) is the largest of the seven regional autism programs in Florida. Funded through an annual legislative allocation, the center serves over 23,000 residents of central Florida on the autism spectrum across the lifespan through consultative individual and family support, training and technical assistance, and public awareness, with a mission of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.
CARD is a clinical service center within the College of Health Professions and Sciences. The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is home to nationally recognized programs focused on health and wellness ― and a respected faculty dedicated to teaching innovations and research partnerships. The college offers accredited programs in athletic training, communication sciences and disorders, physical therapy, and social work. CHPS also offers one of UCF’s largest majors, Health Sciences, as well as popular programs in Sport and Exercise Science within the field of Kinesiology. Through coursework, field experience, and inter-professional education, our students develop high-demand skills in healthcare and cultural competency for working with varied populations.
The Opportunity:
The Autism Disorders Specialist (ADS) II is responsible for working directly with children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), their families/caregivers, and the educational and local agencies serving children and adults with autism-related disabilities. The ADS II creates and delivers, consultation, training content, and programs for professional development reflecting an advanced understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities, and provides direct consultative services to children and adults with ASD and their families.
The ADS II is a member of a dedicated team of cross-disciplinary professionals with expertise in autism spectrum disorders and works within a region to support all individuals and communities with individuals with autism in that region.
This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
Responsibilities:
Maintain an active caseload, deliver in-home and community-based consultations with families and adults with ASD, and provide regional support for other stakeholders.
Develop and model intervention programs, communication, and behavior support with families and educators.
Provide professional and parent education programs and content as requested by the supervisor.
Conduct school and community consultations and in-home visits.
Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and regularly scheduled meetings at UCF as requested by the supervisor.
Develop and maintain a resource network of appropriate referrals related to client needs.
Assist in implementing center goals and strategies.
Collaborate effectively with other Autism Disorders Specialists to support ongoing programs and initiatives.
Write and maintain case reports, electronic client records, reports, and other professional correspondence.
Provide parent and professional training and education programs at least twice per month; develop and deliver innovative parent and professional education programs with general supervision.
Provide basic technical assistance to school districts, agencies, employers, and community groups.
Provide stakeholders with collaborative consultation that demonstrates an understanding of ASD and competence in research-based best practices.
The position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
Use independent clinical judgment for the majority of basic stakeholder needs and situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a relevant field.
2+ years of relevant experience with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
4 years of experience or a Master of Education, Communication Disorders Psychology, or a related field.
5+ years working with individuals with ASD directly.
