The Opportunity:

The Utilities & Engineering Services within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire an Engineer II. This role is responsible for serving as the subject matter expert on electrical systems, including energy generation, power distribution, electrical components, and related projects. The Engineer II will provide expertise in areas such as system troubleshooting, power distribution design, and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements. In addition, this position offers technical guidance to UES leadership and staff, while also helping resolve challenges that arise during the design and construction phases of projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, and designs to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and UCF Construction requirements.

  • Provide feedback on submittals, highlighting errors, concerns, and opportunities for efficiency improvements.

  • Lead projects from design through completion, including site visits to meet with customers and discuss project needs.

  • Partner with the Facilities Design and Construction team on project reviews and plans.

  • Support the Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) program by inspecting and evaluating electrical equipment and distribution systems to identify deficiencies.

  • Help prioritize capital planning by providing data and recommendations for future needs and budget forecasts.

  • Investigate issues found during inspections and work with teams to resolve them.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and technical resource for leadership, project managers, and staff on complex electrical and engineering challenges.

  • Compile and analyze data to support reporting, policy updates, and improvements in operations and energy efficiency.

  • Collaborate with leadership, design teams, and trade shops to improve the safety, reliability, and performance of campus electrical systems.

  • Assess electrical distribution and generation equipment for reliability and long-term feasibility.

  • Develop scopes of work, permit packages, field inspection reports, and detailed engineering reports.

  • Support and troubleshoot existing electrical systems to ensure reliable operations.

  • Contribute to updating UCF’s Construction Standards, preparing project specifications, and drafting reports or correspondence as needed.

  • Conduct field visits and inspections, providing recommendations for design optimization and improvements.

  • Maintain the database for main distribution panels (MDPs) and critical breakers, recommending replacements based on condition and availability.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.

  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with electrical distribution and generation systems.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with leadership, project managers, and technical staff.

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Florida (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).

  • Experience in higher education, large campus environments, or similar complex facilities.

  • Demonstrated expertise with capital planning, facility condition assessments (FCA), and lifecycle management of electrical systems.

  • Proficiency in data analytics for facilities operations, reporting, or performance improvements.

  • Familiarity with UCF Construction Standards or similar institutional design/construction guidelines.

  • Experience leading electrical projects from design through construction and completion.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,518 to $88,713. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

This position requires the completion of a Level II background check.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
