The Opportunity:
The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences (COS) seeks qualified applicants for the Broadcast Production Specialist I position. This role provides technological instructional support and production services to the students and faculty of the Film BA, BFA, and MFA degree programs. The Film Production Specialist I will work with the Broadcast Production Specialist III to foster a student-centered learning environment to support film production.
Responsibilities:
Conduct training workshops to ensure the safe use and proper operation of production equipment and facilities.
Provide direct end-user technology support to students and faculty regarding film/video cameras, sound gear, lighting and grip equipment, post-production workstations, and media workflows.
Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Film Equipment Room.
Lead student workers and OPS staff with the marshaling of equipment and facilities for student-facing media assignments, the production of creative projects, the performance of classroom/lab instruction, and the support of program events.
Monitor productions taking place on sound stage, including some nights and weekends during production seasons. Provide hands-on instruction when appropriate.
Enforce safety protocols on all student productions that have advanced lighting and grip, electrical distribution, overhead rigging, lift operation, power tools, set building, and painting tasks being performed by students.
Conduct the installation, maintenance and repair of production, A/V, and computer equipment owned and operated by the Film program area.
Inspect, clean, and organize facilities to ensure proper working order. Recommend improvements as well as elevate repair and maintenance concerns to supervisor when identified.
Design supplemental instructional materials as well as consult with faculty and supervisor to align efforts with course learning outcomes and professional standards.
Contribute content to the program's production services website, which serves as an on-line portal for student and faculty production technology needs.
Support other duties and expectations as assigned by the Nicholson School of Communication and Media.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of experience in a professional film, television, or other media production environment.
Strong knowledge of digital cinema cameras and accessories, camera movement equipment (dollies, jibs, and gimbals), digital sound recorders and accessories, lighting and grip equipment, overhead rigging, operating lift equipment, and/or digital media workflows.
Knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook applications.
Experience with inventory practices and applications.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in film and/or television production or a related field.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Ability to oversee student productions on the main campus and UCF Downtown sound stages.
Experience working in a higher education or academic environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
