The Opportunity:
UCF seeks qualified applicants for an Industrial Hygiene Specialist. This Specialist is responsible for conducting Industrial Hygiene field inspections and for providing professional services to faculty, staff, and students. This person will investigate, evaluate, and monitor work hazards to determine their potential to cause harm and the effectiveness of the hazard control methods.
Classification Title: Safety Specialist I
Responsibilities:
Conduct the field inspections of the following programs: Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, and Heat Stress. Also assists with the Workplace Safety Programs like Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Accident Investigations, Aerial Lifts and Power Industrial Trucks, Electrical Safety & Lock-out/Tag-out, Personal Protective Equipment, Ladder Safety, and others.
Implement effective programs to manage safety and health hazards and evaluate work operations, production methods, and hazard controls to determine potential contaminant emission sources or related health hazards associated with workplace conditions; when necessary, collect samples of work materials to assess employee exposure to toxic substances.
Coordinate indoor air quality, light, and ergonomic assessments when requested or needed; recommend corrective actions to any deficiencies identified.
Participate in special studies and monitoring programs to determine environmental conditions when necessary. These may include measuring airborne concentrations of dust, gases, vapors, and mists using air sampling instruments and collection devices. When necessary, coordinates such studies with non-university (third party) entities.
Assist the EHS Training Coordinator on all aspects of Industrial Hygiene. Also, when needed, assist the Building Code Office in the review of plans of health hazard control procedures, and evaluates strategies and specifications of proposed contaminants and physical agent control.
Assist with the analysis of accident/near miss data and the development of an action plan to reduce accident rates, as well as conducting job safety analyses to anticipate, identify, and establish controls for physical, chemical, ergonomic, and biological workplace hazards. Also provide support as essential personnel as needed.
Conduct safety risk assessments to evaluate and prioritize the future impact of hazard control measures. Also provide assistance to the Research & Environmental Support group on matters of industrial hygiene.
Maintain industrial hygiene monitoring equipment to include charging, calibration, and inventory control and provide support to the Facilities and Business Operations Safety Committee and other committees as assigned. Also provide other occasional support duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or Associates Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Safety Management, or a related field.
2+ years of safety management experience.
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP).
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $23.94 to Negotiable. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
This position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
