The Opportunity:
The Maintenance Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire multiple Maintenance Technician II's supporting the parking unit. This role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment across campus parking garages and lots. The incumbent will perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks—including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry—to ensure our facilities remain in top condition for students, staff, and visitors. This position plays a key role in troubleshooting issues, responding to service requests, and supporting routine maintenance and sanitation efforts. Ideal candidates will have intermediate-level skills in general building maintenance and a commitment to customer service and safety.
Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and other assigned duties to ensure optimal facility operations.
Conduct preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) by addressing deficiencies identified during PM or predictive maintenance (PDM) inspections.
Respond to service requests and perform corrective maintenance to restore equipment and facility functionality.
Perform interior and exterior painting of building components, equipment, and surfaces as needed.
Clean and maintain various facility features, including stairwells, equipment cages, blue light stations, fire extinguisher cabinets, bollards, guardrails, handrails, emergency lighting, garage overhangs, bunkers, and concrete decks across main campus parking structures.
Assist with installation, cleaning, and replacement of parking signage, wheel stops, and related hardware (e.g., rusted bolts, nuts, and washers).
Refresh and repaint handrails, guardrails, and fire extinguisher cabinets; perform caulking where needed.
Assist in maintaining pavement and surface markings, including parking lines, ADA zones, stencils, directional arrows, stop bars, crosswalks, wheel stops, centerlines, motorcycle zones, hatch lines, fire riser pipes, and bollards across campus locations, including Lake Nona, Downtown Orlando, and Rosen.
Support minor electrical work such as replacing bulbs, reinstalling light diffusers, and securing outlet cover plates.
Provide assistance to Central Shops, contractors, other maintenance zones, and departments, including event support.
Carry out routine and ad-hoc maintenance tasks that occur regularly but without a fixed schedule.
Participate in facility improvement and capital improvement projects that enhance or upgrade infrastructure.
Operate pressure washing equipment to clean stairwells, concrete surfaces, and other outdoor structures.
Report any facility issues or deficiencies related to maintenance, safety, or sanitation.
Comply with all applicable university, local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and safety standards.
Assist with inventory control, supply management, and equipment security.
Participate in all mandatory safety training sessions and programs.
Collaborate effectively with other university departments and Facilities Operations units.
Update work order status to reflect progress or completion, and complete and close work orders in a timely and accurate manner. Record time, materials used, work performed, and any special conditions or follow-up needs in the work order system. Notify the supervisor of any issues requiring additional attention or support.
May be required to support other Facilities Operations zones during staffing shortages or emergencies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in facility or building maintenance, preferably in a university, commercial, or institutional setting.
Hands-on experience with preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, including painting, pressure washing, and basic repairs.
Familiarity with the maintenance and upkeep of parking garages or lots, including signage, striping, bollards, and ADA compliance features.
Ability to perform minor electrical work such as replacing bulbs, reinstalling light fixtures, and handling outlet cover plates.
Experience with painting and re-striping surfaces using stencils, reflective paint, and layout tools.
Proficient in the safe operation of maintenance tools and equipment, including pressure washers, lifts, and hand/power tools.
Experience using Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) to track and complete work orders.
Possession of relevant certifications such as OSHA 10/30, forklift or lift operation certification, electrical safety, or CPR/First Aid.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in conversational English to respond to inquiries, collaborate with team members and customers, and understand standard safety procedures.
Working knowledge of safety procedures, building codes, and maintenance regulations at the local, state, or federal level.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $17.64 to $22.31. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license (preferably issued by the State of Florida or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire). The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business. A clean driving record is preferred.
