The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is home to nationally recognized programs focused on health and wellness ― and a respected faculty dedicated to teaching innovations and research partnerships. The college offers accredited programs in athletic training, communication sciences and disorders, physical therapy, and social work. CHPS also offers one of UCF’s largest majors, health sciences, as well as popular programs in sport and exercise science within the field of kinesiology. Through coursework, field experience, and inter-professional education, our students develop high-demand skills in healthcare and community-based initiatives for working with varied populations.
The Opportunity:
The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is seeking well-qualified applicants for a Medical Secretary II position. This position will provide administrative support to healthcare providers and patients in the clinical setting of the Communication Disorders Clinic.
Responsibilities:
Office and Clinic Operations: Manage telecom for clinic (phone, email, fax), set up patient accounts and insurance in electronic medical records (patient intake and updating records), schedule administrative support, medical records requests, and authorizations.
Manage reimbursement/payment systems (i.e., cash health, backup for physical mail checks), Workday entries for invoices, and coordination with the Administrative Coordinator for patient accounts/payments.
Patient Interaction: Register patients and assist with the verification of insurance with the insurance and billing agencies, backup communication of patient appointments, and accept payment for services.
Assist patient family members in accessing observation sessions in the family observation room. Coordination of referrals with referral coordinators from other clinical units (i.e., Student Health, UCF Health). Obtain prior authorization when needed.
Serve as backup to assist the academic unit during times of low census (semester breaks) or in times of staffing assistance needs (i.e., PT clinic).
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent and (2+) years of relevant experience or a combination of relevant comparable education and experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Administrative experience in a healthcare setting
Knowledge and experience with health insurance plans/benefit verification
The most successful candidates may possess the following qualities:
Customer service experience
