The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida is seeking a Unified Communications (UC) Engineer II to join UCF IT. This position is responsible for supporting and maintaining enterprise collaboration services, with a focus on Microsoft Teams Calling and Microsoft 365 applications. The successful candidate will provide hybrid support across both platforms. This is a hybrid-support role ideal for a candidate looking to strengthen their expertise in enterprise voice while supporting core Microsoft 365 services.

This position works closely with cross-functional teams—including networking, security, IT infrastructure, desktop support—and partners with UCF IT Support Center staff and site administrators to resolve issues and fulfill service requests.

This is an Auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain key Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams collaboration features.

  • Provide advanced support for Microsoft Teams, including Calling Plans, Direct Routing, Auto Attendants, and Call Queues.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve Tier II/III incidents and service requests related to UC and M365 technologies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of voice features with broader M365 applications.

  • Contribute to technical documentation, knowledge articles, and process improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 6 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with any of the following qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Microsoft Teams Calling, including SBCs and PSTN integrations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration, with a focus on Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint.

  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for M365 and Teams automation.

  • Deskside support experience supporting Windows and Mac users.

  • Experience working in IT in higher education, preferably at UCF.

  • Understanding of voice network fundamentals (SIP, QoS, VoIP protocols).

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a STEM or engineering area.

  • Relevant certifications: Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Teams Voice Engineering, etc.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

On-call schedule: This position involves an on-call rotation where work after normal business hours or on weekends may be required.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after a probationary period, depending on workload, supervisor approval, and university policy.
