Student Legal Services:
The Student Legal Services (SLS) office is dedicated to supporting student success by providing free legal counseling and court representation to eligible UCF students. Our services cover a wide range of legal areas, including traffic, criminal defense, family law (such as uncontested divorces), landlord/tenant issues, and expungement of records.
In addition to direct services, SLS staff regularly conduct educational outreach and collaborate with campus partners.
The Opportunity:
UCF’s Student Legal Services, a division of Student Success and Well-Being, is seeking a qualified Attorney I to provide legal advice, services, and court representation to enrolled students. This role is essential in helping students navigate and resolve legal challenges that may impact their academic and personal success. As an Attorney I, you will be a vital resource for the student community, offering professional legal guidance in a variety of common legal matters.
Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice, legal services, and court representation in the following areas: landlord/tenant matters, name changes, uncontested divorces, debt collection defense, sealing/expunging criminal records, suits for money damages under $8,000.00, Chapter 7 bankruptcies, miscellaneous consumer issues (e.g., identity theft, credit report errors, debt collections), and drafting wills, powers of attorney, etc.
Interview clients to gather information, assess legal issues, and determine the appropriate course of action.
Conduct legal research and analysis to support client cases and legal advice.
Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
Represent clients in court proceedings and before administrative bodies.
Educate students on their legal rights and responsibilities through individual counseling and, as needed, through group presentations or informational materials.
Maintain accurate and confidential client files and case records.
Collaborate with other university departments and community organizations to provide comprehensive support to students.
Adhere to all rules and regulations of the Florida Bar and the Supreme Court of Florida.
Minimum Qualifications:
Law degree (L.L.B or J D.) and must be a member of the Florida Bar or become a member within twelve months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) and Florida Bar Membership
2+ years of legal experience in one or more of the practice areas listed in the responsibilities section above.
Experience working in a legal aid, public interest, or university setting.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,518- $80,648. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
