Center for Autism and Related Disabilities:

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) is the largest of the seven regional autism programs in Florida. Funded through an annual legislative allocation, the center serves over 23,000 residents of central Florida with on the autism spectrum across the lifespan through consultative individual and family support, training and technical assistance, and public awareness, with a mission of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities is a clinical service center within the College of Health Professions and Sciences. 

The Opportunity:

The Autism Disorders Specialist I (ADS I) is responsible for working directly with children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), their families/caregivers, and the educational and local agencies serving children and adults with autism related disabilities.

Under direct supervision, the Autism Disorders Specialist I supports or delivers parent education professional development reflecting an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities and direct consultative services to children and adults with ASD and their families. Work is conducted in school, home, community, and office settings. The position involves frequent travel in a personal vehicle within Central Florida.

The ADS I is a member of a dedicated team of cross-disciplinary professionals with expertise in autism spectrum disorders and works within a region to support all individuals and communities with individuals with autism in that region.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains active caseload and delivers in-home and community-based consultations with families and adults with ASD, and provides regional support for other stakeholders

  • Develops and models intervention programs, communication and behavior supports with families and educators

  • Develop home programs with families of CARD clients.

  • Deliver prepared parent and professional seminars and education programs, including evening and weekend dates, at least four times a month.

  • Conduct initial consultations with new clients and make recommendations under direct supervision.

  • Responsible for delivering in-service training programs and conducting seminars and training courses, including evening and weekend dates, at least four times a month.

  • Participate in public education and awareness activities, support technical assistance plans within schools and community groups, conduct intakes, resource, and referral technical assistance, and assist with screenings for children and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).   

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's and 4 years of experience or Master's in Education, Communication Disorders Psychology or a related field.

  • This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

  • This position will be working primarily in Seminole and North Orange County (Lakemont, Rosemont, Altamonte Springs, Pine Hills, Ocoee, Fairview Shores, and Silver Star). Those applying for the position need to have the flexibility to work outside traditional UCF hours.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $48,722-$50,000. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
