The Opportunity:

The Husbandry Assistant will support research in a front-line role at the UCF Lake Nona Research Facility, located at 6900 Lake Nona Boulevard, Orlando, Florida 32827, United States.

In this position, you'll assist the team with cleaning, setting up, and autoclaving cages and bottles to support research and sanitizing facility areas.

Responsibilities:

  • New hires will be trained to operate large case washers, pass-through bulk autoclaves, cage assembly, sanitation & sterility confirmation, floor scrubber, and record-keeping.

  • Additional tasks will include sweeping, mopping, room sanitation, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience; or certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician or above by the Animal Association for Laboratory Animal Science. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with animals in a veterinary, research, shelter, or related setting.

  • Familiarity with specialized sanitation equipment (e.g., Autoclaves, Cagewasher, and other sterilization tools) to ensure a safe and clean environment for both animals and staff.

  • Knowledge and experience in safely handling and disposing of hazardous materials and cleaning agents.

  • Understanding of or ability to learn proper sanitation techniques, including cleaning procedures, and sterilization methods to maintain a hygienic environment.

  • Strong basic computer skills, with the ability to efficiently use software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with an exceptional eye for detail to ensure accuracy in all duties and keen observation skills.

  • Commitment to following established protocols, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

UCF is seeking to fill 2 positions at about 20 hours each week. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

This is an Auxiliary (AUX) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
