Student Health Services – Nursing
Join the University of Central Florida (UCF) Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) Student Health Team as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Nursing department and add to our dedication to providing excellent healthcare to the community that we serve.
The Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides practical nursing care to patients under the oversight of a licensed health care provider. Adhere to the Florida Nurse Practice Act. Follow OSHA standards including blood borne pathogen guidelines. Practices appropriate hand hygiene. Maintains knowledge and follows policies and procedures set by UCF Student Health Services. Assist in other areas to meet the needs of the Clinic.
Responsibilities:
Initial nursing assessment in primary care, acute care, and women's health.
Assist provider with physical exam, procedures, and treatments in primary care, acute care and women's health/gynecology.
Administer medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and perform diagnostic tests as directed.
Counsel patients in self-care, prevention, treatment and follow up care.
Document appropriately and maintain confidentiality.
Assist providers in acute care/walk in Saturday clinic PRN.
Assist providers in mental health PRN.
Provide education about and administer vaccines.
Provide health maintenance education as needed.
Follow standing nursing orders.
Provides culturally competent care.
Assist with specialty clinics PRN.
Keep examination rooms, cabinets adequately stocked with supplies, equipment, and brochures.
Stay up to date with policies, annual training for fire safety, Blood Borne Pathogens, ergonomics, chemical safety, and CPR/AED.
Attend Staff meetings, workshops, and continuing education requirements as scheduled.
Demonstrate knowledge of performance improvement indicators.
Follow clinical policies and nursing protocols.
Assist in other nursing areas when staffing requires.
Follow Universal precautions and infection control guidelines.
Clean Exam rooms and multi patient use items between each use.
Participate in Peer Review.
Responsible for fulfilling all COVID related activities and any other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the clinic.
Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS trainings.
Use machines/equipment including, but not limited to: computers, ear lavage, EKG, IV, injections, pulse oximeters, pulmonary function, surgical tools, wheelchair, stethoscope, telephone.
Understand and properly use medical equipment and supplies.
Observe, understand, and properly react to symptoms of medication reactions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed as a practical nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes; or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior nursing/healthcare experience including LPN, LVN or MA
BLS Certification. UCF SHS accepts the American Heart Association (or equivalent as indicated on the certification) which includes the hands-on demonstration portion.
Adheres to HIPAA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) guidelines and education.
Knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems.
Knowledge of philosophy, protocols, goals of the Student Health Services and the University Community.
