The Opportunity:

The Manager, Facilities Maintenance I directs and manages the Townes Institute Science and Technology Experimentation Facility (TISTEF) through supervising personnel, ensures that facilities are structurally sound, operationally efficient, well maintained, and safe. The Manager, Facilities Maintenance I assists the Director in developing long-range plans for upgrading mechanical and electrical equipment and develops, documents, and administers preventive maintenance programs for all mechanical and electrical equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director by developing departmental policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility, establishing priorities for scheduled mechanical and electrical services, administering preventive maintenance programs for facilities, inspecting facilities to determine repair or replacement needs, and supervising the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on facilities.

  • Ensure that work performed by personnel at the facility meets university safety standards by spot-checking work in the field, evaluating the quality of the work performed, and coordinating with the Director and the Administrator as needed.

  • Enforce university rules and policies regarding personnel conduct by advising all personnel about the university’s rules and policies on employee conduct, issuing verbal warnings and written reprimands for violations, and recommending action to the Director as necessary.

  • Act as the facility point-of-contact to NASA and the Space Force at KSC, and obtain all applicable training and certifications as required by NASA and the Space Force.

  • Request and manage all supporting contractor documentation required to be on site including contractor induction forms /hotwork permits/WHS/WWCC/public liability insurance.

  • Manage facility security, including verifying CCTV operations, and distribute and manage issuance of keys and security passes. Supervises installation of all equipment.

  • Supervise the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on facilities and enforces state and federal regulations governing environmental protection, the handling of and the use of chemical substances and materials.

  • Manage interactions with federal agencies, including the Space Force and NASA, and defense contractors. Ensure that facilities meet compliance standards and all applicable State of Florida and government regulations, including those additional requirements as determined by the Space Force and NASA, and defense contractors.

  • Assign and/or monitor the work of other staff, student workers, or Graduate Assistants.

  • Oversee the education, training and consultation to facility users on highly specialized equipment, scientific research or technology.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience or combination of relevant comparable education and supervisory experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or higher.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to support nights and weekends as needed.

  • Time management skills including being able to handle a complex, varied workload.

  • The ability to lead and manage teams and projects.

  • Experience with lasers and optical laboratories highly preferred

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The facility is an outdoor testing site. The selected candidate may be required to complete NASA escape respirator training for access to facility.

Must be able to obtain a security clearance and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a NASA badge, and Space Force badging as needed. 

Hybrid work schedule or remote work within the state of Florida may be considered based upon specific circumstances and candidate qualifications.
