The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is home to nationally recognized programs focused on health and wellness ― and a respected faculty dedicated to teaching innovations and research partnerships. The college offers accredited programs in athletic training, communication sciences and disorders, physical therapy, and social work. CHPS also offers one of UCF’s largest majors, health sciences, as well as popular programs in sport and exercise science within the field of kinesiology. Through coursework, field experience, and interprofessional education, our students develop high-demand skills in healthcare and cultural competency for working with varied populations.

The Opportunity:

The Cellular Exercise Physiology Lab within the Institute of Exercise Physiology & Rehabilitation Science seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join our research team. The postdoctoral candidate will lead independent research projects while working collaboratively within our research group and conduct innovative research focused on understanding fundamental cellular mechanisms and molecular processes associated with exercise recovery in both healthy and disease states. The postdoctoral candidate is expected to be familiar with conducting human subject’s research. Prior training and experience with manuscript and grant writing and project management are also required. The annual salary is set according to the experience of the candidate. This is a full-time position for a maximum of two years.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently design and execute research experiments while conducting comprehensive literature reviews to support project development.

  • Perform sophisticated molecular bench work, including flow cytometry, real time cellular analysis, and microscopy.

  • Assist with laboratory organization and maintenance, including equipment upkeep and inventory management.

  • Participation in laboratory meetings and journal clubs, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and foster cooperative projects with team members and external collaborators.

  • Provide guidance to junior researchers while maintaining productive relationships with colleagues.

  • Develop and implement new research methodologies while maintaining rigorous documentation standards. detailed documentation of experimental procedures, analysis of research outcomes, and preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

  • Pursue fellowship applications and engage in career advancement activities.

  • Present findings at scientific conferences and contribute to the writing of grant proposals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Cellular & Molecular Biology or related field obtained within the last 3 years

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Strong research background with track record of peer-reviewed publications high quality journals

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical methods

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong expertise in cellular and molecular biology techniques is essential. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas:

    • Flow Cytometry (multi-color panel design, antibody titration, compensation etc.)

    • Real-time cell analysis (impedance based invasion/migration assay)

    • Fluorescent/Brightfield Microscopy

    • Hematology Analysis

  • Track record of successful grant writing or evidence of potential to secure future industry, DOD, NIH or other federal funding.
