The Opportunity
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a Professor of Practice position with a focus on Power Electronics and Electrical Power Systems. This is a non-tenure earning, full-time, 9-month faculty position, with the potential for summer support.
We are seeking a seasoned professional with deep expertise in the design, development, and deployment of power electronics and power systems for space applications and environments. The ideal candidate will bring substantial industry or government experience to enhance our educational and research missions through teaching, mentorship, strategic guidance on the development and/or augmentation of test capabilities, and the potential for new collaboration models with established and emerging space sector prospective partners.
This position is part of ECE’s strategic focus on space electronics, and the future of power management technologies in extreme environments. The selected candidate will contribute to curriculum development, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor student projects, develop new collaborations, expand existing collaborations, build industry-aligned experiential learning opportunities, and, in general, increase the University’s standing within the space sector.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 10 years of professional experience with design, development, integration, test, and operation of power electronics and power systems to include applications with extreme environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
At least 15 years of professional experience with design, development, integration, test, and operation of power electronics and power systems to include applications with extreme environments.
Demonstrated expertise in areas such as DC-DC converters, high-reliability power systems, radiation-hardened electronics, or system-level power integration for space systems.
A record of technical leadership, innovation, and significant contributions to industry, government, and/or academic projects.
Extensive experience in collaborating with space agencies (e.g., NASA, ESA) and aerospace industry partners.
Prior experience in teaching, mentoring, or curriculum development at the university level.
Familiarity with conventional design architecture as well as manufacturing and test flows in space electrical and power systems, including the shortcomings of those conventional approaches.
Familiarity with space design, qualification standards, and reliability engineering for electronics.
Additional Application Materials Required:
