Student Health Services – Nursing:
UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS) provides various primary and specialty care services to help keep students, faculty and staff at their optimum health. The Opportunity:
Join the University of Central Florida (UCF) Student Health Services (SHS) as a Registered Nurse Specialist II and serve as a Lead RN to provide professional and culturally competent nursing care to patients. Practice under the oversight of a licensed healthcare provider, practice nursing in compliance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act; adhere to OSHA, CDC, and Florida Department of Health guidelines (FDH; follow SHS policies, assist in all specialty areas to meet the needs of the clinic, provide primary-level leadership and supervision to the nursing staff. This role is also responsible for overseeing injection services, compliance with vaccine management including; inventory, storage, temperature monitoring, administering and emergency plan.
Responsibilities:
Oversee injection/immunization/vaccination area: inspect and store injections, ensure vaccines are not expired, perform inventory and routine cleaning of storage units.
During business hours, ensure temperature ranges for refrigerators and freezers are maintained, keep track of unit temperatures as needed, take immediate action if temperatures are outside acceptable ranges and report accordingly.
In case of emergency, responsible for initiating backup to safeguard injections.
Administer injections and vaccinations, including allergy injections to individuals following proper medical protocols and guidelines, ensure accuracy of documentation, and provide exceptional customer service.
Direct patient care:
Primary Care, Sports, International, GYN, Behavioral Health, After hours, Specialty.
Collaboration with ancillary departments. Perform liaison activity between providers and patients.
Nursing assessment in all patient care areas of the clinic.
Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments. Administer medications (inhalation, injection, intravenous, oral, topical).
Provide patient education (e.g., medications, procedures, office visit, prevention, follow-up, self-care).
Collect samples/specimens:
Prepare and analyze CLIA waived and other routine tests offered within a clinical Lab to ensure the highest quality in the results, within the established time frame, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Assist with central clinical inventory; ordering, replenishment, distribution of medical supplies, and rotation of items to be used in date sequence.
Review usage reports, identify trends, and anticipate needs for all clinical areas, including maintaining necessary files and forms for ordering supplies and equipment.
Complete diagnostic tests as ordered (e.g., Electrocardiogram (EKG), COVID, Spirometry):
Document as necessary (e.g., Electronic Health Records (EHR), logs).
Assist with Baker Acts and March-man Acts.
Participate in drills and assigned annual trainings.
Participate in code response:
Leadership:
Manage workflow of the patient care area.
Conduct staff probationary and performance appraisals.
Demonstrate competence as a resource. Participate in orientation for new staff members.
Participate in Peer Review.
Ensure compliance with UCF SHS policies.
Participate in UCF SHS policy review and revision as related to nursing.
Participate in writing and reviewing UCF SHS nursing team competencies. Attend staff and committee meetings as assigned.
Participate in nursing education.
Participate in infection prevention (e.g., clean rooms and multi-patient use items between use, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, safe injection practices).
Participate in inventory control.
Check all Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AED) in main SHS per protocol.
Other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the clinic.
Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Section 210, Florida Administrative Code and 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
BLS Certification. UCF SHS accepts the American Heart Association (or equivalent as indicated on the certification) which includes the hands-on demonstration portion.
Adheres to HIPAA (Health Information Privacy Protection Act) guidelines and education.
Knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
Experience working with Electronic Health Record Systems.

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $48,722.00 - $54,203.00. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
