The Opportunity:
The Research Writer plays a vital role in telling the stories of UCF's research enterprise -- uncovering breakthroughs, innovations, and collaborations that will shape our future. As part of a content strategy team, this position will mine for compelling research stories, working with faculty, students, and partners to translate their work into accessible, engaging narratives. These stories will be shared across digital, print, and social media channels to elevate UCF's reputation as a national leader in discovery and innovation.
Classification Title: Writer II
Responsibilities:
Partner with faculty, students, and communications and industry counterparts to uncover story leads that align with strategic university priorities and develop these stories to showcase the university's impact and the excellence of our people.
Translate complex research and technical information into engaging narratives for general audiences and write high-quality content that can be distributed across multiple digital and print channels.
Collaborate with communications and creative colleagues to deliver future-focused, compelling storytelling experiences that drive awareness of UCF's interdisciplinary research enterprise.
Contribute writing and communications support to special projects, campaigns, events, and other initiatives that highlight the university's research enterprise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
Skilled in writing and editing across various formats.
Proficient in AP Style and journalistic standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
Experienced in technical writing and research-based content.
Comfortable with scientific topics, terminology, and complex subject matter.
Hands-on experience with WordPress and content management systems.
Strong interviewing skills for sourcing and developing compelling stories.
Effective multitasker with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Comfortable with tight deadlines and a fast-paced environment.
