The Opportunity:
The University of Central Florida (UCF) FSEC, located in Cocoa, FL, is seeking for Software Developer I to support multiple projects in the Buildings Research Division. The Software Developer I will provide application design, development, performance monitoring and testing, application acceleration, and service to optimally deploy, run, distribute and improve multi-platform buildings research applications. Applications include the next generation of software development for EnergyGauge software that is used for building energy code compliance and qualifying for ENERGY STAR, LEED and other above-code programs. This is an auxiliary-funded position. Employment is based on circumstances, such as funding sources, which control the length for which the position is available. Employment is subject to the availability of funding and may cease at the time the funding for this employment is depleted. EnergyGauge software has been deployed for 30 years.
Responsibilities:
Plan and analyze new and improved software needs through customer research and analyzing other software on the market.
Define program requirements by writing software specifications, use case and requirement traceability matrix documents for the development team.
Develop prototype/wireframe designs of GUI for program.
Research new technologies by attending seminars, reading articles, and implementing or recommending the implementation of new technologies.
Write software code and documentation.
Use AI to speed up coding if helpful towards objectives.
Test software with use cases.
Obtain alpha and beta testers for new software features.
Provide summary of feedback to team.
Deploy multiplatform software.
Update software with needed new features, capabilities and bug fixes, documenting within software tracking tool (FSEC currently uses JIRA).
Communicate, collaborate and cooperate fully with all members of FSEC. Supervise student employees/interns as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in building energy simulations and understanding building energy heat flows.
Proven experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or similar role within building energy, simulation, scientific or mathematical environments.
Proficiency in writing software code for deployed and maintained applications.
Full Stack Developer experience with expertise in React.js, Node.js, and Oracle Database.
Advanced knowledge of C# and ASP.NET for web development with good understanding of .NET framework.
Experience working on any other distributed software product for technical/scientific application.
Knowledge of databases, frameworks, and multi-platform code development using tools such as Unity, Visual Studio, Delphi, and/or SQL.
Experience programming scientific controls and data loggers.
Ability to learn new languages and technologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude with an acute attention to detail.
Master’s degree in a related field.
