The University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is home to nationally recognized programs focused on health and wellness ― and a respected faculty dedicated to teaching innovations and research partnerships. The college offers accredited programs in athletic training, communication sciences and disorders, physical therapy, and social work. CHPS also offers one of UCF’s largest majors, health sciences, as well as popular programs in sport and exercise science within the field of kinesiology. Through coursework, field experience, and inter-professional education, our students develop high-demand skills in healthcare and cultural competency for working with varied populations.

The Opportunity:

The UCF College of Health Professions and Sciences School of Social Work is seeking well-qualified candidates for a Student Resource Specialist III position. The Student Resource Specialist will provide a full range of services and support ranging from student recruitment, admissions, orientation, counseling, and retention to the support of the Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) students' academic and professional development; provide academic and professional advising as required by the program's national accreditation standards; serve as a member of the BSW program’s leadership team; maintain student data for internal and university databases and reporting; coordinate with the program director for course scheduling, class planning, and managing the program’s instructional resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to plan and lead the program's recruiting, admissions, orientation, and retention activities and initiatives.

  • Provide professional and academic advising to BSW students as required and in accordance with the program's national accreditation standards.

  • Meet individually with students once admitted to the major to develop a customized plan of study to facilitate completion of the program.

  • Maintain expertise in BSW program certificates and minors that can be combined with the BSW degree and maintain familiarity with university resources that support student’s professional development.

  • Process and file appropriate paperwork (i.e. overrides, course exceptions, waivers, SAP appeals, etc.) for undergraduate BSW students.

  • Assist the undergraduate BSW program director with students of concern and disseminating relevant information to students.

  • Assist program director with course scheduling; catalog and handbook updates and revisions; coordinate with college communications office to maintain updated BSW website.

  • Facilitate transfer orientations throughout the year for transfer students who have been admitted to the university.

  • Maintain data and student records for internal and campus databases and reporting

  • Facilitate information sessions with regional partner schools, such as Valencia College and Seminole State College, to accomplish strategic recruitment goals; handle all prospective student inquiries to the program. Attend Career Fairs throughout the year.

  • Liaison on behalf of the BSW program with the campus office focused on student services and success.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative Support:

  • Use the BSW Access database, Data Mine Portal, and PeopleSoft including Pegasus Mine Path to disseminate information to students, provide advising, assist with the development of course schedules, and identify enrollment and graduation numbers.

  • Pull class grading rosters from PeopleSoft at the end of each semester to review student grades and identify students who may be at risk.

  • Assist the BSW program director with the development of the schedule of courses for three terms; assist with catalog changes, processing necessary documents, and review the BSW website to ensure the information remains up to date.

  • Assist in the coordination of the school’s social events, such as LEAD, graduation/celebration, and the BSW orientation.

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Serve on the School of Social Work BSW Committee, Field Committee, and Undergraduate Coordinators Council for the College of Health Professions and Sciences.

  • Assist with scholarship review.

  • Optional: become a member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree and 1+ year or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree and 1+ years of experience.

  • Experience with advising and recruitment in higher education.

  • Knowledge of Excel, MS Word, Access, Outlook, PeopoleSoft, Pegasus Mine Portal, MyKnight Star.
