The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Department at Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to join our team. This role is critical in maintaining, repairing, and servicing fire alarm systems across campus to ensure a safe, functional, and efficient environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will excel in troubleshooting, providing prompt customer service, and collaborating with other teams to uphold the highest safety and operational standards. On-call responsibilities may be required, as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and troubleshoot fire alarm and sprinkler system issues.

  • Repair or replace faulty components and coordinate with contractors as needed.

  • Escort contractors and assist with inspections and maintenance activities.

  • Ensure compliance with fire safety codes and university standards during system installations and inspections.

  • Conduct field surveys, building inspections, and safety assessments.

  • Recommend safety standards and equipment upgrades or replacements.

  • Maintain accurate records in the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS).

  • Ensure timely responses to life safety and urgent work orders.

  • Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with UCF standards.

  • Participate in quality assurance programs and attend departmental meetings.

  • Provide on-call support and respond to emergency situations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in fire alarm system maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Certification in fire alarm systems, such as NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Level I.

  • Knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes, including NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA25.

  • Proficiency in working with fire alarm control panels, sprinkler systems, and related devices.

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for fire safety equipment.

  • Familiarity with Integrated Workplace Management Systems (IWMS) or similar work order management tools.

  • In-depth understanding of state and federal fire safety regulations.

  • Effective verbal communication skills to collaborate with team members, contractors, and stakeholders, complemented by the ability to document and report issues accurately.

  • Experience in a campus, institutional, or large-scale facilities environment.

Health Assessment Required:  

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Possession of a NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Level I certification is required for this role. If not currently certified, candidates must obtain this certification within six months of their start date. Any associated costs will be reimbursed by the department.

The selected candidate must be available for on-call assignments and emergency responses as required by the department.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $20.29 - $27.14. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

This position requires the completion of a Level II background check.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
