The Opportunity:
The Maintenance Department in Facilities and Business Operations at Lake Nona, Health Sciences Campus, is seeking to hire an HVAC Specialist I to help maintain a safe, functional, clean, and efficient living and learning environment on campus. In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting HVAC issues, providing maintenance services, and responding to service requests from customers and staff.
Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance to keep HVAC and refrigeration systems running smoothly and prevent potential issues.
Repair defects found during inspections and respond to reported problems to restore proper functionality.
Work on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including installing, maintaining, testing, and calibrating equipment.
Calibrate electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls to maintain correct temperature and humidity levels.
Check refrigerant levels and pressures, ensure safety devices are working, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
Maintain and repair compressors, make emergency refrigeration repairs, and ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Assist other shops, contractors, and departments with maintenance, events, and special projects.
Participate in facility upgrades and improvement projects.
Complete work orders promptly, documenting hours worked, actions taken, and any conditions needing follow-up. Report maintenance, health, or safety concerns to your supervisor.
Support compliance with all university, local, state, and federal regulations.
Help with inventory control and security of tools and materials.
Take part in required safety training and collaborate with other campus departments.
Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting other zones during shortages or emergencies.
Ability to work in extreme environments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning; or a high school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of hands-on experience performing preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems.
EPA Certification or training in HVAC maintenance practices.
Practical experience in checking refrigerant charges and pressures, as well as handling and disposing of refrigerants safely.
Skilled in conducting repairs on a wide range of HVAC components, including air systems, compressors, and controls.
Familiarity with various computer programs, including Microsoft Office and the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS) or similar software.
Basic communication skills in English to work effectively with customers and operate electronic equipment.
Ability to communicate and coordinate with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $22.98 to $26.27. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
This position is based at our Lake Nona Health Sciences Campus
This position requires participation in the “on-call” rotation to answer calls and respond timely per department protocol.
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
This position will be operating in confined spaces and elevated areas.
