The Opportunity:
Reviews research protocol submissions (requests for new or continuation of research, changes to studies, reports of possible unanticipated problems, etc.) to assure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies pertaining to the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP).
Responsibilities:
Responsible for designated (delegated by IRB chair) review of minimal-risk, exempt and non-exempt studies and participates in administrative review of greater-than minimal-risk studies.
Independently makes and documents numerous required regulatory determinations about proposed research and scholarly activities.
Participates in review and resolution of New Information submissions.
Communicates with researchers during the submission and review process.
Assists researchers in the use of the electronic protocol submission and review system.
Participates in IRB office meetings and chat to collaborate with other review staff. Hosts IRB Office Hours.
Assists in developing and conducting educational workshops, seminars, in-service programs, and web based training materials.
Assists in creation of informational newsletters, brochures and flyers.
Provides expert-level guidance and support to faculty, staff, and student researchers to maintain awareness of federal regulations governing human-subjects research.
Promotes the welfare and rights of human research participants to maximize subject protection while maintaining a high-quality working relationship with UCF researchers.
Serves as a team member on the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and provides assistance in developing evaluative mechanisms for IRB functions and HRPP interactions within the UCF community.
Assists with development of UCF IRB policies and procedures to ensure institutional compliance with federal regulations for safety and protection of human subjects in research.
Maintains current working knowledge of the changing regulations and university policies for the safety and protection of human subjects in research.
Participates in professional activities, attends national meetings and regulatory seminars.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification, or eligibility to sit for the exam.
Minimum of three years of experience in human subjects research, including protocol development, regulatory compliance, and obtaining informed consent.
Prior experience supporting an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or working in a human research protections program, ideally within an academic, healthcare, or research-intensive setting.
Proficiency with research management tools, such as the Huron Research Suite or similar software, is preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines governing human subjects research (e.g., the Common Rule, FDA regulations, HIPAA, and international standards such as ICH-GCP).
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex regulatory language and provide clear, practical guidance to researchers.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Understanding of research ethics, risk/benefit assessment, and informed consent processes.
Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,518 to $80,648. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
Hybrid work schedule or remote work within the state of Florida may be considered based upon specific circumstances and candidate qualifications.
