The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Maintenance Superintendent where you'll actively oversee the Paint Shop. The primary function of this role is to coordinate, perform, and supervise the work of the Paint Shop as necessary while serving as the primary contact for building customers and users regarding paint-related matters. The Maintenance Superintendent will ensure all paint shop maintenance tasks are completed according to the work order management process, maintaining a standardized color scheme and palette across campus buildings.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the daily schedule to front-line personnel at the start of each shift, outlining expectations, timelines, and task sequences. Monitor progress throughout the shift, ensure adherence to scheduled work orders, and address any variances promptly, including personally performing any outstanding work tasks as needed.

  • Participate in coaching and counseling of staff to enhance team morale and motivation. Train employees on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure adherence to work schedules and productivity standards. Report any performance discrepancies as needed.

  • Ensure all work is conducted safely following university safety rules and regulations. Maintain proper housekeeping standards during and after job completion. Manage material usage efficiently, ensuring overages are returned to stock and worksites are left orderly.

  • Process work orders promptly and accurately. Record labor hours, shop stock usage, and provide detailed notes on work performed and any exceptional conditions encountered. Report any maintenance deficiencies to supervisors promptly.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to schedule utility/equipment shutdowns or area closures necessary for project completion. Ensure projects adhere to committed schedule completion dates and productivity standards.

  • Lead, train, and supervise personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders engaged in plumbing equipment installation and repair as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably overseeing paint shop operations.

  • Proficiency in paint application techniques, color matching, and maintaining a consistent color scheme across multiple buildings.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team with a broad representation, ensuring high morale, adherence to SOPs, and efficient work performance.

  • Experience identifying issues, analyzing problems, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Ability to perform the duties of your front-line team to complete unresolved or unassigned work as needed.

  • Proficiency using standard office software applications including Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System), and telecommunication devices.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, contractors, and team members.

  • Relevant certifications in paint application, safety training (OSHA), or facility management are desirable.

  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures, with a track record of promoting a safe work environment.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to facilities maintenance, including health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Health Assessment Required:  

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in use of respirators.
