The Opportunity:
The Maintenance Department is seeking an experienced Locksmith II to install, maintain, and repair complex lock systems. This role requires timely response to emergencies and unexpected situations while prioritizing customer service and satisfaction. Expertise in fire, smoke, and handicap ingress/egress hardware, as well as electronic security systems, is essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities:
Install, adjust, and service locksets and door closers while overseeing locksmith shop work orders.
Consult with university stakeholders for upgrading or installing new keying systems, ensuring compatibility and adherence to security standards.
Maintain lock and database for key issues and card entry systems.
Purchase hardware and locking mechanisms for various university departments, maintaining stock and establishing relationships with suppliers.
Stay updated on changes and updates in locking systems and materials through communication with distributors.
Performs other duties as assigned. May be asked to assist other Facilities Operations zone areas in times of personnel shortages or emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved locksmith apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with campus or similar door hardware and keying systems, as well as southern building and NFPA standards.
Knowledge of key blank identification with key cutting experience.
Proficiency in using standard office software applications to include Microsoft Office, work order systems (e.g., Integrated Work Management System), and telecommunication devices.
Ability to read schematics and use hand and power tools.
Experience working with facilities management in large complex organizations.
Knowledge of Federal, State, and local safety regulations.
Analytical skills to help analyze and troubleshoot lock-related issues.
Capable of applying critical thinking skills and working independently.
Basic communication skills in English in order to: Work effectively with customers; Operate and demonstrate the functions of the electronic equipment.
Strong management skills, including planning, organizing, and controlling.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated salary range for this position is $20.29 to $27.14. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
The working hours are subject to change depending on the needs and requirements of the University. This position is essential to the operations of the University, and the employee holding this position is expected to respond, as directed by their supervisor, to emergency or operational situations. This position is subject to after-hours and/or weekend shifts based on seasonal demands.
