The Opportunity:
Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Maintenance Technician III. This position provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of the campus in an effort to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting issues and providing service for, and responding to, requests from customers and/or staff. The ideal candidate has advanced maintenance repair and replacement skills for building systems, including but not limited to chilled and hot water pumps, electrical, and plumbing systems. The employee will be required to assume on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) to address issues discovered during inspections.
Complete corrective repairs in response to reported issues to restore proper functionality.
Execute tasks across multiple skilled trades, including: Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Carpentry & Painting.
Plumbing: Repair or replace toilets, faucets, sinks, urinals, drains, garbage disposals, and drinking fountains.
Electrical: Maintain lighting systems, outlets, switches, motors, pumps, and compressors.
HVAC: Replace filters, repair exhaust/supply ventilators, heating valves, and soft water systems.
Carpentry & Painting: Repair doors, floors, windows, and walls; perform painting on interior/exterior surfaces and building components.
May assist with the installation of new equipment and systems.
Act as a lead for work involving other shops, contractors, or university departments.
Manage assigned maintenance projects to ensure timely and efficient completion. Accurately document work orders, labor hours, materials used, and detailed trade notes. Report any conditions needing further attention and update work order statuses accordingly.
Ensure compliance with university, local, state, and federal safety and maintenance standards.
Participate in safety training and follow inventory control procedures.
Collaborate with other Facilities Operations zones, especially during staff shortages or emergencies.
Ability to work in outdoor conditions and within differing climates and at different elevations.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 4 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
Advanced skills and experience in roof repairs and building envelope systems, including diagnosing and repairing issues related to roofing, moisture barriers, and building integrity.
Proficiency in performing carpentry repairs to floors, doors, ceilings, windows, and walls, with attention to detail in maintaining structural integrity.
Knowledge and experience in plumbing, electrical work, and painting, with the ability to complete tasks for both interior and exterior areas, equipment, and building components.
Proven ability to lead and manage maintenance projects, including overseeing work performed by central shops, contractors, and other campus departments with a focus on timely and efficient completion.
Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar platforms for work order management to include accurately recording labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes while documenting any special conditions or issues that require further attention.
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to report deficiencies related to maintenance, health, and sanitation, along with ensuring compliance with university, local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, and policies.
Experience with inventory control and security through ensuring proper management and tracking of materials and supplies.
Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with various campus departments and teams to address facility needs and ensure smooth operations.
Commitment to safety protocols and a track record of promoting a safe work environment by participating in all required safety training.
Willingness to participate in the on-call response rotation and provide timely and effective support in emergencies.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29 to $25.01. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
The position involves working on rooftops and at high elevations.
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in the use of respirators.
