The Opportunity:
UCF IT Telecommunications seeks candidates for a Network Engineer III. The Network Engineer III role is an integral part of the Security Operations team within the Telecommunication Network Service division. This position centers on the implementation and management of information security monitoring and response technologies. Its key objective is to support the diverse needs of both internal and external customers while ensuring the ongoing security of the network environment.
Close collaboration is essential, and the Network Engineer III will work closely with the Security Compliance team, architects, and a dedicated team of network engineers. Together, they maintain a robust and secure network infrastructure that serves the needs of UCF’s campus community.
This is an auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.
Responsibilities:
Evaluate and implement network hardware and software solutions to enhance performance and reliability. Optimize the network for fast, reliable data access and transfers.
Responsible for implementation and optimization of Network Security designs. Reviews architectural plans and designs along with configuration and integration support. Also provides operational support for complex, network security deployments and assists the technical operational team throughout all disciplines of Network Services.
Design review, planning, engineering, and operational support of networks and infrastructure, that is highly secure, resilient, and compliant with standards, such as CMMC, NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, HIPAA Security Rule, etc.
Responsible for firewall configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and other various network and security routine tasks.
Participate in investigations and resolve security incidents to meet service level agreements (SLAs). Participate in computer investigations and forensic analysis for host and network-based security incidents.
Assists in the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and measures in a networking environment. Perform regulated research enclaves monitoring activities (e.g., SIEM), track, document, and report security incidents to appropriate officials and/or authorities both internal and external to the organization.
Provide off-hour technical support for security and network issues. Participate in the higher education security communities such as EDUCAUSE, REN-ISAC, etc.
Evaluate and recommend security products for various platforms in the networking environment and educates internal and external stakeholders about network security policies and consults on security issues and other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience implementing security policies and best practices in both Cisco and/or Palo Alto environments.
Excellent understanding of the network topology and troubleshooting of network and hardware related problems.
Demonstrated hands-on product and technology skills in at least two of the following areas:
Identity Services / Firewalls / Threat Defense / Email Security / Secure Access / Software Defined Networking / Zero Trust / Wireless / Local Area Networking / Wide Area Networking / Cloud / Analytics / Telemetry / Routing Protocols / Operating Systems & Database Security.
Software knowledge: IPAM, ServiceNow, Secure CRT, Teams, Visio Lucid Charts, Reporting and Syslog.
Certifications: CCNA / CCNP Security, JNCIA / JNCIS Security, Security +.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
This position must be available 24/7 in case of an emergency and maybe asked to work during emergency situations including early, late, weekend, holiday hours and / or University closures such as during a hurricane. Since UCF IT Telecommunications is considered a Mission Essential component of UCF's operational capability.
This position is required to work on-site full time, Monday-Friday. Additionally, this position may be asked to work a flexible schedule that includes non-traditional hours to perform essential job functions that cannot be performed during normal business hours.
