Military and Veteran Student Success:
The Office of Military and Veteran Student Success, a unit within the Department of Access and Community Engagement is dedicated to providing student veterans and military-connected students with an enriching and inclusive student experience. The office works with university and community partners to provide a student experience that allows student veterans and military-connected students to achieve educational and career goals through academic success and community partnerships.
The Opportunity:
The School Certifying Officer has primary responsibility for processing timely and accurate VA Educational Benefit certifications. The School Certifying Officer will monitor student enrollments for all student veterans and military-connected students utilizing VA Educational Benefits. Additionally, the certifying officer will monitor financial transactions related to VA educational benefits, working closely with appropriate university offices to ensure regulatory compliance. The specialist will maintain thorough working knowledge of military and veteran's educational benefits, including all state and federal legislative requirements. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the case management and oversight of student academic success, referring those students in need of assistance to a higher level of academic support.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for reporting the enrollment and certification status for students utilizing VA educational benefits. Process VA educational benefits and enrollment certifications in VA ONCE in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures all required documentation is on hand and complete prior to certification. Maintains records and updates the database that contains the latest information on courses in the ACE guide, enrollment certifications, and other documentation. Safeguard records and sensitive documentation in a secure location to ensure student veterans and military-connected students’ privacy is protected.
Provides case management for assigned student veterans and military-connected students to ensure compliance with enrollment hours, degree plans, and academic standing. Runs degree and grade reports as required to monitor student academic status. Refers students experiencing academic difficulty and/or on academic probation to the academic success coach or peer success coach team.
Be a subject matter expert regarding state/federal regulations and benefits by attending professional development and training opportunities, reading VA advisories and bulletins. Be knowledgeable and understand institutional policies, programs, and procedures to include academic program status and student statuses.
Supervise school certifying assistants throughout the certification process to ensure information is annotated correctly and information is successfully input into the Enrollment Manager system.
Assist in training and development of new staff and assistants on VA policies, procedural updates, and university policies. Supports new student orientation for student veterans and military-connected students transferring to UCF. Also assist in preparing for DoD MOU renewal, WEAMS updates, and compliance audits.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Must be certified as a VA School Certifying Official within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Familiarity with the military experience or veteran's affairs.
Customer service experience.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Outstanding communication skills, including interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
