The Opportunity:
UCF's Office of Risk and Safety seeks applications for a Workplace Safety Office. This Environmental Health & Safety Professional is responsible for the management of the department's comprehensive Workplace Safety Program, providing professional services to faculty, staff and students. Most importantly, this Officer will analyze work environments and design mechanisms to identify, control or eliminate, and prevent diseases or injury.
Classification Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
Responsibilities:
Conduct accident/incident investigations, root cause analysis, trend analysis, and prepare reports identifying causes and hazards, and provide recommendations to prevent/mitigate future occurrences. Support university-wide efforts designed to control, identify, eliminate, and prevent disease, accidents, or injuries.
Manage the following programs: Aerial Lifts Safety, Electrical Safety, Control of Hazardous Energy (Lock-Out/Tag-out), Ladder Safety, Forklift Safety, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Hand and Power Tools Safety and the Employee/Supervisor/Department Safety Recognition.
Perform or coordinate safety surveys and field inspections to monitor compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as UCF workplace safety policies and procedures. Prepare written reports of findings and, where indicated, make recommendations for corrective or preventive measures, and follow up to ensure implementation.
Review and evaluate existing safety policies and procedures, and, where indicated, develop new ones and work with stakeholders to ensure implementation. Also participate in workers' compensation case management meetings with Human Resources, the State Insurance Fund, and 3rd Party Partners.
Act as primary contact in the investigation of safety concerns submitted on our webpage, through e-mail, or in verbal/written format.
Coordinate/conduct job safety analyses and evaluate hazards in occupational and industrial processes including physical and ergonomic hazards at all university facilities. Also assist the Safety Training Coordinator in developing training sessions to support all aspects of the Workplace Safety Programs.
Provide support as a subject matter expert of the FBO Safety Committee. Support university-wide in all matters of occupational, industrial, and workplace safety.
Provide support as essential personnel when needed, as well as other occasional support for workplace safety duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience , or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Safety or Safety Management.
2+ years of safety management experience.
Experience working in a safety environment in higher education.
Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
Other relevant safety certifications (OSHA 511, etc.).
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
